For people & families

Research starts with a conversation.

Taking part is always your choice. We help you understand what is involved and find studies that may be relevant to you.

The basics

What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a carefully planned research study involving people. It may test a treatment, scan, blood marker or new way of assessing memory and thinking. Every study has clear rules about who can take part.

Why take part?

People join for different reasons: to access research, help improve future care, or contribute to understanding dementia.

Safety and oversight

Studies are reviewed by independent ethics and regulatory bodies. Risks and possible benefits must be explained clearly.

Travel and expenses

Support differs by study. The research team will explain any travel arrangements and reimbursement before you decide.

What happens

A supported path, one step at a time.

  1. 01

    A first conversation

A research team explains the study and checks whether it may suit you. Asking does not commit you to taking part.

  2. 02

    Time to decide

You receive clear information, can ask questions, involve family or carers, and take time before deciding.

  3. 03

    Study visits

Visits vary by study and may include conversations, memory tasks, scans, blood tests or treatment.

  4. 04

    Ongoing support

The team stays in contact, monitors safety and explains what happens next. You can leave at any time.

Family and carer support matters. With your agreement, someone close to you can join conversations, support visits and help you decide what feels right.
